About The Position

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Senior System Operations Engineer for its advanced trapped ion quantum computers. This role is part of a cross-functional team focused on operating and enhancing IonQ's quantum computing systems. The position is based in Boulder, CO, with a hybrid work model. Recent graduates in physics and related fields are encouraged to apply, as training will be provided for quantum computer maintenance and operation.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in physics, engineering, or another physical science.
Desire and capability to work closely on a distributed team, with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Hands-on experience with optical alignments, laser stabilization, and/or AOMs.
A propensity for learning new things and fascination with emerging technologies.
Formal training or education in statistics.
Capability to adapt to an ever-growing and ever-changing work environment.
Disposition to work flexible working hours, on a 24/7 on-call shift where the rotation changes as needed.
1+ year of laboratory experience in atomic and/or optical physics.

Nice To Haves

PhD in physics, engineering, or another physical science.
Experience with Javascript or Python.
A background in data analysis, data science, or machine learning.
Software Engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations to ensure systems are running at peak performance.
Ensure high uptime and performance of commercial and development quantum computers through alert response, monitoring, and engineering.
Conduct regular and emergency hardware maintenance.
Collaborate with other System Operators on improvements to processes and practices for operating quantum systems.
Communicate with customers to coordinate access and inform them about system status.
Remotely interface with quantum systems to impact performance using documented procedures.
Interpret telemetry to gain a deeper understanding of quantum system status.
Communicate clearly with teams working across multiple timezones.
