About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Physician Assistant (PA) is to attend to the medical and mental health needs of the Guests and Extended Guests at High Watch Recovery Center. When necessary the PA will do an initial history, physical, psychiatric assessment and prescribe when indicated, review their current medications and assist when appropriate to coordinate their medical and psychiatric care upon discharge from HWRC.

  • Physician Assistant with a current and valid Connecticut license.

Responsibilities

  • All guests and extended guest seen by the PA will receive a comprehensive medical and or biopsychosocial assessment, utilizing present and past history and a mental status exam.
  • The need for medical care will be assessed during the initial evaluation.
  • Based on the outcome of the evaluation, a diagnosis is made according to the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV and a treatment plan to address the clinical presentation is prepared.
  • These data, recommendations, risk, benefits and alternative treatments are discussed with the individual.
  • Once the individual has agreed to treatment and the treatment plan is initiated, appropriate follow-up care will be planned and provided.
  • PA will provide notice to those individuals treated of their relationship with a Collaborating Physician.
  • The PA will treat individuals when it is deemed necessary for their medical, psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological needs within the scope of the PA’s practice. All psychotropic medication and drugs indicated to treat the side effects of psychotropic medications may be prescribed. Laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures indicated before and during pharmacotherapy will also be ordered.
  • Initiation, renewal and change of prescription of all drugs shall be documented in the individual’s medical record as will all case reviews and consultations with the Collaborating physician.
  • If during the course of treatment it is determined that a treatment modality is beyond the scope of the PA’s practice or professional expertise, a consultation will be obtained and a referral arranged as necessary to insure safe, judicious care.
  • The PA will work in collaboration with the clinical team that will be providing supportive counseling for the Guest and Extended Guest population
