About The Position

The Casual Hospitalist is a member of the health care team who works in collaboration with other staff to provide comprehensive health care services to patients. The physician’s scope of practice is defined through Fairview’s Credentialing and Privileging Committees. The hospitalist assesses, maintains, and improves the health condition of patients assigned to the hospitalist service and provides consultation to other subspecialty services. The role provides staffing support to the hospitalist service through all hours of service (24/7/365).

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited ACGME Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residency training program.
• Board Certified or Board Prepared with the American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association.
• Licensed or able to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice licensure.
• Able to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.
• Meets threshold criteria and qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.

Responsibilities

• Provides evaluation and treatment of patients appropriate to the Hospitalist Service.
• Completes comprehensive health and physical evaluations of patients.
• Completes differential diagnoses of patients’ conditions.
• Formulates patient evaluation plans.
• Formulates, implements, and monitors treatment plans.
• Manages patient care through appropriate use of available resources.
• Balances appropriate utilization of laboratory and x-ray procedures with quality medical care.
• Integrates discharge planning throughout the patient’s stay.
• Provides or coordinates communication among all parties involved in patient care.
• Ensures timely, relevant, and appropriate information is provided to hospitalist staff, consultants, referring physicians, hospital staff, patients, and families.
• Contributes to effective and efficient practice management and responsibilities.
• Provides staffing support to the hospitalist service through all hours of service (24/7/365).
• Documents the medical record in a timely manner and maintains adequate knowledge of billing policies to support billing for professional services.
• Meets workload standards for the department.
