About The Position

The Physician provides comprehensive, patient-centered medical care within their scope of training and specialty in a clinic and/or hospital setting. This role may include primary care or specialty services depending on assignment. This Physician is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients while promoting preventive care, managing acute and chronic conditions, and coordinating care across the healthcare continuum. This position supports WCHC’s mission to deliver high-quality, accessible healthcare to the community. Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Active Iowa medical license (or ability to obtain)
  • Current DEA and CSA licenses
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification
  • NPI number and eligibility for Medicare/Medicaid enrollment
  • Credentialing and privileging through WCHC
  • Strong clinical decision-making and diagnostic skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to practice within a defined specialty or broad scope of care
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team-based care model
  • Adaptability in a rural healthcare environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care appropriate to specialty, including preventive, acute, and/or chronic disease management
  • Conduct patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations
  • Diagnose and treat a range of conditions within scope of practice
  • Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory and diagnostic test results
  • Perform procedures appropriate to specialty and credentialing
  • Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans
  • Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, COPD, and heart disease
  • Provide age- and condition-appropriate screenings and preventive services
  • Coordinate care with other physicians, specialists, hospitals, and care providers
  • Facilitate referrals and ensure appropriate follow-up care
  • Participate in transitions of care and population health initiatives as applicable
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and prevention strategies
  • Foster a patient-centered environment that promotes understanding and trust
  • Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete electronic medical records
  • Document patient encounters, care plans, and outcomes
  • Comply with regulatory, billing, and quality reporting requirements
  • Review and sign charts per organizational standards
  • Participate in community health initiatives and outreach as appropriate
  • Support organizational quality improvement and performance initiatives
