About The Position

The Physician Services Clerk provides quality customer service to patients and performs those functions delegated and assigned by the Office Manager. This role involves carrying out front office activities in a kind and courteous manner, being helpful to customers and their families, and notifying the office manager of customer complaints in a timely manner. The clerk is responsible for gathering appropriate demographic information, updating the practice management system, and notifying customers of long waits while offering alternatives. Effective telephone communication and message documentation are crucial, as is coordinating all EMR/medical record activities. The position also includes collecting and posting payments, ensuring the safety and security of monies, scheduling patients, coordinating appointment scheduler activities for efficient patient flow, performing insurance eligibility verification, and obtaining prior authorization as needed. Additionally, the clerk will research patient ledgers to educate patients on balances due and collect payment, perform appointment confirmation calls, complete required in-services, participate in patient satisfaction improvements, and make referrals to other medical care team members when needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have or obtain within 6 months of employment, Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Certification must remain active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • Knowledge and experience with computers, coding, and medical terminology preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, problem-solve, and handle stress in a positive manner

Responsibilities
