The Adult Psychiatry Clinic provides comprehensive psychiatric and psychotherapy services for adults age 18 and older, including psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual therapy, and group therapy. As one of the largest psychiatry clinics in the region, we provide approximately 32,000 patient visits annually. Our outpatient clinic prioritizes the care of individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness, many of whom have complex psychiatric conditions complicated by co-occurring medical illnesses and substance use disorders. Providers work closely with a team of specialized psychiatric nurses who support patients receiving long-acting injectable medications and Clozapine. This collaborative model allows us to provide timely, responsive care to the population we serve. The clinic also includes an embedded master's-level social worker who assists patients with complex psychosocial needs and helps connect them with community resources and support services. Hennepin Healthcare sponsors a Psychiatry Residency Training Program, and physicians in the clinic have opportunities to supervise third- and fourth-year psychiatry residents during their outpatient rotations. Many providers also contribute to resident education through didactic lectures and other teaching activities. In addition, the department offers no-cost Continuing Medical Education (CME) opportunities through monthly case conferences and educational presentations, many of which are led by learners in our Psychiatry Residency and Psychology Fellowship programs. Inpatient Coverage and Call Responsibilities: In addition to outpatient clinical responsibilities, ambulatory psychiatry providers support our inpatient services through weekend and holiday coverage. Call responsibilities are shared among all physicians and typically include completing up to seven inpatient psychiatric admission evaluations on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, followed by 24 hours of phone availability for consultation and support. These coverage shifts occur approximately five to six times per year. Providers are also assigned an after-hours nurse triage call week following a Sunday call shift, during which they are available by phone to support nursing staff as needed.
