About The Position

Sanford Health has an opening for a BC/BE Pediatric Infectious Diseases Physician to join the region's largest team of board certified, fellowship-trained pediatricians and pediatric specialists. This role involves an outpatient clinic and inpatient consultant practice within the region’s only Level II trauma Children's Hospital, which offers 24/7 in-house coverage by pediatric hospitalist, NICU, and PICU teams. The team currently consists of 2 MDs and 1 Nurse Practitioner. The position is consultative only with 24/7 call coverage approximately one week at a time. Sanford Medical Center includes a 12-bed PICU with additional flex beds, shared with a 24-bed pediatric unit and a 40-bed Level III NICU. The role fosters collaborative relationships with primary and pediatric subspecialty services. Sanford Health Fargo serves a large catchment area of 1.2 million people across ND, MN, and parts of SD and MT. There is a joint appointment as clinical faculty with the Department of Pediatrics at UND School of Medicine and Health Science, involving teaching medical students, family medicine, and pediatric residents. Sanford Health Fargo is also a Pediatric Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program (PSLRP) eligible site.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of an Internal Medicine or Pediatric residency program.
  • Successful completion of a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada in the residency.
  • Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • An applicant who has just completed a fellowship shall provide his/her fellowship log.
  • An applicant who is not applying directly out of a fellowship shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the last 12 months, including number of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications.
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement of inpatient services, which included the care of at least 50 pediatric patients in the last 12 months.
  • If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinic activity for the last 12 months is required.
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the care of at least 50 pediatric patients in clinical practice in the last 12 months.
  • More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.
  • Training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than the ACGME, AOA or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, may be considered via the waiver of eligibility process as defined in the Credentialing Policy.
  • Refer to each entity’s policy for grandfather exceptions.
