About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking a BC/BE fellowship-trained Pediatric Intensivist to join its well-established team in Marshfield, Wisconsin. The role involves providing initial and ongoing care of pediatric patients needing intensive care services within Marshfield Children’s Hospital. Responsibilities include covering the unit 24/7, providing sedation services for procedures, and managing critically ill children from neonates to adolescents. The team is part of a 40-member Department of Pediatrics, which includes all pediatric subspecialties. Marshfield Children's Hospital is Central Wisconsin's only accredited pediatric hospital, equipped with advanced technology and over 40 pediatric specialties. It features a 24-bed level 3 NICU, an 8-bed PICU with 24/7 intensivist support, and 26-bed pediatric acute beds. The hospital is also an ACS Verified Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Program and a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). Physicians are encouraged to participate in medical education and research.

Requirements

M.D. or D.O. degree.
Successful completion of a hospital affiliated Pediatric residency program.
Completion of a Pediatric Critical Care fellowship accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
Demonstrate at least 50 Pediatric Critical Care procedures in the last 12 months (either via fellowship log or quality profile from current privileges).

Responsibilities

Provide initial and ongoing care of pediatric patients needing intensive care services.
Cover the PICU unit 24/7.
Provide sedation services to pediatric patients undergoing clinic and hospital procedures.
Manage shock, coma, elevated intracranial pressure, seizures, infections, acute and chronic renal failure, acute endocrine electrolyte emergencies (including diabetic ketoacidosis), sepsis, heart failure, trauma, acute and chronic respiratory failure, drug overdoses, massive bleeding, central nervous system dysfunction (including cerebral resuscitation), and kidney failure.
Be involved in medical education and research.
