About The Position

The Pediatric BMT Team at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Physician to provide care to pediatric patients receiving autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant, CAR T-cell therapy, or Gene Therapy. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative team environment, including physicians, APPs, clinical coordinators, pharmacists, MSW, and intake coordinators, across both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role involves assessing and monitoring patient medical needs, providing quality medical services, overseeing delegated services, developing educational strategies, documenting care according to regulatory standards, communicating with the healthcare team, advocating for patients and families, and participating in process improvement activities. The physician will also collaborate with Corewell Health to achieve financial and patient satisfaction goals.

Requirements

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible Physician
  • BC in Pediatrics
  • BC/BE Pediatric Hematology/Oncology or Pediatric Immunology/Allergy
  • MD/DO
  • State of Michigan LIC-MD/DO
  • State of Michigan CRT-DEA Registration
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • CRT-Adv Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • CRT-Pediatric Adv Life Support (PALS)

Nice To Haves

  • HSCT experience
  • Some experience with CAR T-cell therapy and Gene Therapy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and monitors the medical needs of patients/significant others.
  • Provides quality medical services to patients in a cost effective, appropriate manner and ensures coverage of caseload at all times.
  • Provides input into the development of policies and procedures as they related to medical practice and quality patient care.
  • Provides oversight of Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners and others providing delegated services to patients.
  • Evaluates patients'/significant others'/staff educational needs and develops and implements appropriate teaching strategies or delegates to appropriate resources.
  • Documents in a manner consistent with regulatory standards.
  • Communicates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
  • Acts as a patient / family advocate.
  • Participates in ongoing process improvement activities through the development / application of clinical paths, process improvement, and other related activities.
  • Actively works with Corewell Health to meet financial and patient satisfaction goals.
