About The Position

This Physician (Pathology) position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas. BAMC is the United States Army's premier medical institution, a 425-bed academic medical center and the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center. It includes the Center for the Intrepid, an outpatient rehabilitation facility, and ten organizations centered around the Army's largest inpatient hospital. More than 8,000 military personnel, civilians, and contractors staff BAMC, serving wounded service members and the San Antonio community. The physician provides transfusion medicine services and expert consultation on complex pathological diagnoses, teaches physician residents, oversees blood donations and the creation of FDA-approved blood products, and participates in laboratory quality improvement activities. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet the physician education, licensure, supervised clinical experience, and accredited specialty residency requirements. A Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent degree is required. Applicants must hold a current, active, full, unrestricted physician license and have completed at least one year of supervised clinical experience after obtaining their medical degree, as well as the required accredited residency training in the specialty. Management prefers completion of a one-year fellowship in Transfusion Medicine. The position offers federal compensation and benefits, including paid time off, medical benefits, student loan repayments, and a retirement package with a Thrift Savings Plan and matching employer contributions. Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers acting within the scope of their employment, as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act. Salary negotiation may be available to candidates new to Federal service. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.
