About The Position

Plans and coordinates outreach efforts to the referral base for the Clinical Enterprise. The Liaison is responsible for the outreach and promotion of the services provided by WVU Medicine, contending with referral issues, and maintaining high visibility within the leadership of the clinical enterprise. This role coordinates outreach based on the marketing calendar, executing outreach on behalf of specialty physicians, services, facilities, and centers that comprise the Clinical Enterprise at WVU Medicine. The position both executes and manages recurring site visits to the referral base to facilitate relationships between referring physicians (and their staff) and the specialty services at the clinical enterprise, and facilitates visits by WVU Medicine providers to referring specialists as appropriate. The Liaison manages and executes outreach in their assigned territory, with territory expansion contingent upon realistic requests and supported by realistic opportunities from within the Clinical Enterprise. They offer updates to the referral base about programs, services, providers, and facilities within the Clinical Enterprise, and facilitate referrals through the development of relationships between primary care providers and specialists. The role provides answers to questions or concerns about services and patient referrals, and permits the development, maintenance, and expansion of relationships with referring provider office staff to enhance utilization of services and customer satisfaction. Accurate call logs and subsequent details from site visits are maintained. Formal and informal updates are provided to hospital and practice plan leadership regarding referral base issues. The individual strives to develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the referral base, including issues affecting the community. They provide leadership and support of outreach and marketing efforts as assigned, suggest strategies and implement programs designed to benefit patient referrals, and identify barriers affecting referrals, actively coordinating communication of these issues to Departmental Chairs, Administrators, and Directors or the appropriate chain of command. Recommendations are made for strategies designed to increase referrals to the Clinical Enterprise. High profile meetings/responses are coordinated and facilitated on behalf of senior leadership. Relationships are developed and nurtured with internal faculty, ancillary staff, and organizational and clinical leadership of WVU Medicine through recurring meetings and periodic contact. The Clinical Enterprise of WVU Medicine is represented at external meetings as assigned. A high profile is maintained with Departmental Chairs, Administrators, and Directors to learn about new services to be promoted that support the Marketing Calendar.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing and/healthcare administration OR High School Diploma or Equivalent AND Four (4) years’ experience in sales or marketing.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Exceptional communications skills: Both verbal and written skills are needed to be effective in presenting the message and getting feedback—from one-to-one conversations to group presentations.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented: Ability to utilize or adopt a customer relationship portal to help track and analyze voluminous data points, follow-up activities and events.
  • Motivation, a self-starter: Much of the work is independent of a traditional office environment. Motivated individuals challenge themselves to understand what’s expected, why it’s important, and to get the job done, largely on their own.
  • Knowledgeable of all scheduling/authorization processes.
  • Requires a high level of attention to detail and fact reporting.
  • Highly polished foresight is crucial to achieve success in the position due to the amount of pressures resulting from internal faculty/administration’s interest in capturing the market share of the referral base.
  • Must have the ability to review and analyze referral reports in order to plan and effectively execute, responsive outreach.
  • It is imperative that the position manages the analyses regarding provider satisfaction via verbal and written communications.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in business, marketing, and/or healthcare administration is preferred.
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in sales or marketing position, preferably in the healthcare industry.
