About The Position

We are seeking experienced Locum OB/GYN Physicians (MD/DO) to join a collaborative medical team. This role involves providing coverage for Obstetrics and Gynecology in both office and hospital settings, including call responsibilities. The reason for coverage is a physician on medical leave. The practice setting includes office hours from 08:00 to 16:00 for patient appointments, with 24-hour call hours each day. The practice consists of 4 physicians (one on leave) and 5 midwives, along with 5 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Onsite facilities include lab and ultrasound capabilities, and each provider is supported by dedicated clinical staff. The patient population consists of approximately 90% low-risk pregnancies and 10% high-risk pregnancies, with 20% of services being gynecology-related. The average number of scheduled patients per day is 25-30. Providers have discretion for 1-4 gynecology surgeries per day depending on complexity. The documentation system used is EPC.

Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Possession of an active Virginia medical license (or willingness to obtain one)
  • A Self-Query NPDB report is required at the time of presentation, and it must be obtained within 30 days
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications
  • Clear malpractice history and background check
  • The provider must be local

Responsibilities

  • Management of low-risk pregnancies (e.g., history of twins, toxemia, pyelonephritis)
  • Fetal heart rate interpretation through non-stress tests (NST), contraction stress tests (CST), and fetal scalp electrodes (FSE)
  • Performance and interpretation of obstetric ultrasounds, including Level I screenings for viability
  • Routine vaginal deliveries
  • Utilization of low forceps
  • Decision-making regarding cesarean sections
  • Handling complicated deliveries including breech presentations, multiple births, and abruptions
  • Vaginal births after cesarean deliveries (VBACs)
  • Repair of third and fourth-degree lacerations
  • Office/minor gynecological procedures including IUD placement, cystoscopy, colposcopy, and cryosurgery
  • Surgical gynecology procedures encompassing both open and laparoscopic techniques for diagnostic and minor surgeries, such as tubal ligations and laparoscopic ovarian surgeries
  • Major operations like ectopic pregnancy and cystectomies
