About The Position

The West Virginia University Health System, the state’s largest health system and largest private employer, comprises 18 hospitals and five institutes. West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Medicine, Section of Hospital Medicine seeks a hospitalist for a full-time faculty hospitalist position. The successful candidate will practice in the primary locations of Morgantown, WV and Fairmont, WV, and potentially other worksites in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, requiring travel. This is an inpatient hospitalist service position with an expectation of 26 weeks annually of clinical duties, primarily involving night coverage for admissions and cross-coverage responsibilities. The section is a growing academic hospitalist section offering teaching opportunities for residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers. It is a large tertiary care center with extensive consultation support and cross-department/section collaboration, and numerous specialty service lines including cardiovascular, oncology, end-stage renal disease, long-term antibiotic infusion, geriatric fracture service, complicated infectious disease, and post-acute care patients. The WVU Health System has more than 2,400 licensed beds, 3,900 providers, and nearly 30,000 employees, anchored by a 700-bed academic medical center in Morgantown.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent
• Eligible for state medical license
• Completed an Internal Medicine residency program
• Board certified / eligible in Internal Medicine
• All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment

Responsibilities

• Practice in the areas of Internal Medicine / Hospitalist Medicine
• Provide excellent patient care
• Be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows
• Provide night coverage, primarily admissions with cross coverage responsibilities
• Manage a wide variety of patients including cardiovascular, oncology, end stage renal disease, long-term antibiotic infusion, geriatric fracture service, complicated infectious disease, and post-acute care patients
