About The Position

The West Virginia University Health System, the state’s largest health system and largest private employer, comprises 18 hospitals throughout the state and bordering states. It includes five institutes and provides management services for other local hospitals. The West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Medicine, Section of Hospital Medicine, is seeking a hospitalist for a full-time faculty position (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will primarily practice in Morgantown, WV, and Fairmont, WV, with potential assignments to additional worksites in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, requiring travel. This position is on the inpatient hospitalist service, with an expectation of 26 weeks annually of clinical duties. The night coverage primarily involves admissions with cross-coverage responsibilities. It is a growing academic hospitalist section offering teaching opportunities for residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers. The large tertiary care center provides extensive consultation support and cross-department/section collaboration, with numerous specialty service lines for managing diverse patients, including cardiovascular, oncology, end-stage renal disease, long-term antibiotic infusion, geriatric fracture service, complicated infectious disease, and post-acute care patients. Morgantown is highly rated for lifestyle and business climate, offering cultural diversity, amenities of a large city, an excellent school system, and recreational activities, located near Pittsburgh, Washington D.C., and Baltimore.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent
  • Eligible for state medical license
  • Completed an Internal Medicine residency program
  • Board certified / eligible in Internal Medicine
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment
  • Expectation of 26 weeks annually of clinical duties

Responsibilities

  • Practice in the areas of Internal Medicine / Hospitalist Medicine
  • Provide excellent patient care
  • Be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Provide night coverage primarily for admissions with cross coverage responsibilities
  • Manage a wide variety of patients including cardiovascular, oncology, end stage renal disease, long-term antibiotic infusion, geriatric fracture service, complicated infectious disease, and post-acute care patients
