About The Position

West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Medicine, Section of Hospital Medicine seeks a hospitalist for a full-time faculty Hospitalist & Nocturnist positions (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in the primary locations of Morgantown, WV and Fairmont, WV. Depending on operational needs, a successful candidate may also be assigned to provide services at additional worksites in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In such instances, travel would be anticipated and expected to fulfill said duties at these additional sites. The West Virginia University Health System is West Virginia’s largest health system and the state’s largest employer. The System has undergone significant expansion in specialty and sub-specialty care in areas such as cancer, heart and vascular, and neuroscience, among many others. The Health System operates West Virginia’s first and only multi-organ transplant center, and opened a new, 150-bed Children’s Hospital in September 2022. Today, the WVU Health System has more than 2,400 licensed beds, 3,900 providers, and nearly 30,000 employees. Anchored by a 700-bed academic medical center in Morgantown, the Health System includes more than 24 member hospitals that collectively serve a multi-state region that includes West Virginia, Western Maryland, Eastern Ohio, and Southwestern Pennsylvania. Morgantown is consistently rated as one of the best small metropolitan areas in the country for both lifestyle and business climate. There is also an excellent school system and an abundance of beautiful homes and recreational activities. Morgantown is located just over an hour south of Pittsburgh, PA and three hours from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD. University Health Associates (UHA) is a private, not-for-profit corporation composed of clinical faculty members of the WVU School of Medicine and School of Dentistry, and also advanced practice providers and other allied health providers. The organization is West Virginia’s largest multi-specialty physician practice. UHA operates and staffs clinics and hospitals throughout West Virginia and surrounding states.

Requirements

MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent.
Eligible for state medical license.
Completed an Internal Medicine residency program.
Board certified / eligible in Internal Medicine.
All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
26 weeks annually of clinical duties.

Responsibilities

Practice in the areas of Internal Medicine / Hospitalist Medicine.
Provide excellent patient care.
Actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
Practice in the primary locations of Morgantown, WV and Fairmont, WV.
Provide services at additional worksites in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, with anticipated travel.
Primarily handle admissions and cross-coverage responsibilities during night shifts.
Teach residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers in one-on-one settings and on rounding teams.
Manage a wide variety of patients including cardiovascular, oncology, end stage renal disease, long-term antibiotic infusion, geriatric fracture service, complicated infectious disease, and post-acute care patients.
