About The Position

The West Virginia University School of Medicine and the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute’s Department of Neurosurgery seek a Neurosurgeon (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Bridgeport, WV. The WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute guides a team of 280 dedicated faculty in providing compassionate patient care and advanced medicine through education, research, and outreach in the many diverse communities we serve. The Institute spearheads efforts to develop innovative solutions for neurological and psychiatric conditions ranging from Alzheimer’s to Parkinson’s; autism to stroke; and paralysis to chronic pain, addictions, and traumatic brain injury. The WVU Medicine Neurosurgery, Spine and Pain Center at United Hospital Center is in a period of growth and focuses on the multidisciplinary treatment of spine disease. You will join a dedicated and collegial group of physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners who have expertise in interventional pain management, neurosurgery and physiatry. UHC is a member hospital of the West Virginia University Health System (WVU Medicine), the state’s largest health system and largest employer. The System has undergone significant expansion in specialty and sub-specialty care in areas such as cancer, heart and vascular, and neuroscience, among many others. The Health System operates West Virginia’s first and only multi-organ transplant center, and opened a new, 150-bed Children’s Hospital in September 2022. Requirements

• MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent.
• Eligible for state medical licensure.
• Completed a neurosurgery residency program.
• Board certified / eligible in neurosurgery.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Practice in the area of neurosurgery.
• Provide excellent patient care.
• Be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Manage operative cases that include general cranial, spine and peripheral nerve procedures.
• Manage non-operative clinical care of patients with brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerve disease.
• Assist the hospital leadership in organizing and delivering neurosurgically related health care to patients through the nursing and ancillary staff at UHC.
• Perform routine cervical and lumbar spine discectomy and fusion surgeries.
• Address basic uncomplicated brain tumors and neurosurgical cranial emergencies (cranial trauma, stroke, or shunt malfunction).
