About The Position

Sutter Medical Group (SMG) is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Memory Care Specialist to join the Department of Cognitive & Behavioral Neurosciences within the SMG Neuroscience Service Line in Sacramento, California. This is a full-time ambulatory position with no hospital call requirements. The role involves providing comprehensive outpatient care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including a high volume of patients receiving monoclonal antibody infusion therapies. The position is within a multidisciplinary memory program, collaborating with neuropsychology, social work, primary care, neurology, psychiatry, and geriatrics. The specialist will help grow and shape a regional center of excellence for memory care, emphasizing team-based, longitudinal care, and will play an active role in recruiting and mentoring additional memory-care specialists. There are opportunities for teaching and curriculum development for the emerging Neurology Residency Program, and for candidates with academic or research interests in dementia, neurodegeneration, biomarkers, outcomes, or health-services research. Collaboration on novel therapies and delivery platforms, including focused ultrasound and blood–brain barrier modulation, is also possible. The role involves leveraging technology and mobile devices for cognitive screening, remote monitoring, caregiver support, and data-informed care pathways. For qualified candidates, there is a pathway to future consideration for the role of Department Chair for Cognitive & Behavioral Neurosciences.

Requirements

  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in Neurology, Psychiatry, or Geriatrics
  • Eligibility for California medical licensure
  • Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient- and family-centered care for individuals with cognitive disorders

Nice To Haves

  • Fellowship training in behavioral neurology, geriatric psychiatry, geriatric medicine, or related memory-care fellowship preferred (or equivalent clinical experience in dementia care)
  • Interest in program-building, recruitment, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Experience with or enthusiasm for disease-modifying therapies and infusion-based treatment
  • Comfort with technology-enabled care, including EMR-based workflows, telehealth, and mobile cognitive screening tools
  • Prior leadership, educational, or research experience, is a plus
  • Candidates with an academic or research interest in dementia, neurodegeneration, biomarkers, outcomes, or health-services research are especially encouraged to apply (interest preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including a high volume of patients receiving monoclonal antibody infusion therapies (e.g., lecanemab/donanemab and future agents).
  • Practice within a multidisciplinary memory program in close collaboration with neuropsychology, social work, primary care, neurology, psychiatry, and geriatrics.
  • Help grow and shape a regional center of excellence for memory care, with a strong emphasis on high-quality, team-based, longitudinal care.
  • Play an active role in recruiting and mentoring additional memory-care specialists as the department expands.
  • Participate in teaching, curriculum development, and mentorship for the emerging Neurology Residency Program, along with other learners.
  • Collaborate on novel therapies and delivery platforms, including focused ultrasound and blood–brain barrier modulation for targeted drug delivery as this work matures within the Neuroscience Service Line.
  • Partner with the Neuroscience Service Line to leverage technology and mobile devices for cognitive screening, remote monitoring, caregiver support, and data-informed care pathways.
