About The Position

Sanford Clinic Neurology is seeking a BC/BE Neurologist with fellowship training in Cognitive Neurology for Alzheimer’s and Dementia. This role involves joining a group of experienced neurologists with a focus on general neurology and various specialty interests. Sanford Neurology is looking for neurologists with subspecialty training in all areas, offering the opportunity to craft a clinical practice focused on areas of interest. The practice is outpatient only, as the Sanford Neurology group has two dedicated neuro-hospitalists and three stroke specialists who provide inpatient hospital coverage. Sanford Clinic Neurology currently serves as neurology faculty for the USD Sanford School of Medicine, and a neurology residency began in July 2023.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Fellowship training in Cognitive Neurology.
  • Successful completion of a Neurology residency program accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/ subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • Applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
  • Demonstrate active involvement of inpatient services to be at least 50 patients in the last 12 months (if providing a quality profile from hospital).
  • Demonstrate active involvement in the care of 50 patients in clinical practice in the last 12 months (if documentation of clinic activity is provided).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways and should be reflective of the privileges being requested: An applicant who has just completed a residency shall provide his/her residency logs and a list of completed rotations, as applicable. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the last 12 months, to include number of procedures performed-morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinic activity for the last 12 months is required.
  • More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examination.
  • Admit patients (if applicable to the setting).
  • Provide consultative services.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and provide nonsurgical care to patients of all ages presenting with illnesses, injuries, and disorders of the neurologic system.
