About The Position

Matrix Providers is hiring a Physician to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families in San Antonio, TX. The Physician will perform a full range of physician services by privileges granted by the MTF. This role involves directing, performing, or assisting in the instruction of other health care professionals, examining, diagnosing, treating, or prescribing courses of treatment, and providing preventive and health maintenance care. The Physician will order diagnostic tests, request consultations or referrals, and be technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff. The Physician will provide internal medicine care for adult patients (18+) with acute and chronic conditions, potentially serving as a primary care manager. This includes managing patient care, approving/disapproving referrals, answering patient telephone consults, refilling prescriptions, providing preventative care, post-discharge care, and addressing acute/urgent patient needs. The Physician will also provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems and may perform specific medical procedures if working on an inpatient service. Participation in the clinic Quality Assurance Program is also required.

Requirements

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
  • Graduated from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained.
  • For foreign medical school graduates: Provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Board-eligible or board certified.
  • Successful completion of an internship and residency program corresponding to the specialty required, approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
  • At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting after obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree (e.g., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program).
  • Experience must include at least 32 hours of patient treatment within the specialty in the last 24 months.
  • Must be Board Certified or eligible to test for Board Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions.
  • Experience performing the following medical procedures if working on an inpatient service: Electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation, Flexible sigmoidoscopy, Graded exercise treadmill testing, Central line placement, Arterial line placement, Intubation and airway management, Hemodynamic invasive monitoring, Lumbar puncture, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis, CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of physician services by privileges granted by the MTF.
  • Direct, perform or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
  • Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Order diagnostic tests as applicable and request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures, and providing in-service training to clinic staff members.
  • Provide internal medicine care for adult patients, ages eighteen (18) and older, with acute and chronic patient conditions.
  • Serve as a primary care manager for an empanelment to not exceed 825, requiring a minimum of 50 bookable face-to-face and 15 telemedicine appointments per week or, in the absence of telemedicine, 63 bookable face-to-face appointments per week.
  • Adequately diagnose and treat diseases and injuries including, but not limited to: Cardiovascular diseases, Respiratory diseases, Gastrointestinal diseases, Endocrinological diseases, Rheumatological diseases, Renal diseases, Infectious Diseases, and Neurological disorders.
  • Manage patient care to include approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals, answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff, refilling prescriptions, providing primary and secondary preventative maintenance care, providing post-discharge patient care, and addressing any additional acute/urgent patient care as the need arises.
  • Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems as they occur.
  • Take part in clinic Quality Assurance Program as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
