About The Position

Sutter Medical Group (SMG) seeks to hire a Physician – Hospitalist to join an established Hospital Medicine team in Sacramento, California (Sutter Medical Center Sacramento). This role involves managing patient care within a hospital setting, with a focus on high-quality, patient-centered care. The position offers a flexible schedule, competitive compensation, and a supportive work environment. The hospital utilizes an open ICU model where hospitalists may follow patients into the ICU or sign off, with intensivists managing all ICU admissions. Procedures are not required but can be performed if the physician is credentialed and comfortable. The daily census is typically 14-16 patients on 10-hour rounding shifts. Dedicated admitting shifts handle 6-8 admits on days/swings and 8-10 admits on nights. There is strong collegial support between admitting and rounding physicians. Night shifts and swing shifts occur 2-3 times per month, with the majority covered by dedicated swing admitters and nocturnists. Supplemental APCs provide cross-coverage, but the core model is physician-led. Case management, social work, and pharmacy support are strong, with pharmacy managing med-rec. Documentation is facilitated through Dragon/Snapdragon. Scheduling is flexible, based on clinician preference, with rounding blocks typically 5-7 days. The role is shift-based with no call.

Board Certified/Eligible in Hospital Medicine by ABIM
Strong commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care
Excellent communication and team-based practice skills
Valid California medical license required prior to start
Federal unrestricted DEA

Responsibilities

Manage a patient census of 14-16 patients on 10-hour rounding shifts.
Admit 6-8 patients on day/swing shifts (10 hours) and 8-10 patients on night shifts (12 hours).
