Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Internal Medicine and fellowship training in gastroenterology.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Physician Board-certified or Board Eligible physician in Internal Medicine and gastroenterology.

  • Recent direct acute care clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Functions as a physician performing the duties of a gastroenterologist.
  • Provides comprehensive evidence based care to a designated patient population, providing gastroenterology services to patients in the medical office setting as well as to hospital patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
  • Accountable for the delivery of quality measures that will provide excellence in personalized healthcare.
  • Provides communication to referring physicians to maintain a continuum of care for all patients.
  • Practices gastroenterology incorporating established quality standards.
  • Participates in the gastroenterology call schedule for Thompson Peak and Shea campuses.
  • Collaborates with the TPK Administration and other medical staff leadership to develop a GI outpatient clinic and laboratory and identify new opportunities to expand GI services.
  • Develops treatment protocols, clinical pathways, quality standards and best practices in the overall clinical practice of inpatient and outpatient GI medicine.
  • Works with the respective departmental leadership establishing standards for accepting patients into GI service.
  • Becomes actively engaged in the TPK peer review process.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled Medicine and other staff committees that require collaboration with the Services.
  • Meets with consulting and referring community physicians to determine the most effective communication processes to achieve the highest level of continuity of care.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Director to provide fiscal accountability for the service.
  • Participates in establishing a positive rapport with the community based physicians, emergency department, the intensive care units, laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, respiratory therapy and other appropriate service areas.
  • Collaborates with Case Management and the Clinical Documentation Specialists.
  • Utilizes Medical Director when necessary in difficult situations.
  • Collaborates with the Medical Director to identify new opportunities to expand the Gastroenterology services in collaboration with administration and community physicians.
  • Completes understanding of and adherence to EMTALA regulations.
  • Compliant with all HonorHealth Medical Staff bylaws, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Complies with documentation standards for all medical care rendered.
  • Participates and complies with all patient safety indicators.
  • Participates in the recruitment and retention of physicians.
  • Facilitates and supports the mentoring of other physicians, nurses, pharmacist and other healthcare professionals.
  • Creates a climate for professional practice with other disciplines.
  • Supports the vision and values of the organization.
  • Attends and participates in Departmental Committee meetings.
  • Plans, coordinates, facilitates and participates in educational programs dealing with gastroenterology care.
  • With direction of the Medical Director, may participate with CME planning for the Hospital.
  • Participates with the Director of Medical Education and Medical Director of Academic Affairs to assure appropriate teaching opportunities for residents and medical students.
  • Participates in the education of nurses and other ancillary professionals.
  • Participates in research activities within the gastroenterology program for the purpose of improving the quality of care in the Program.
  • Collaborates with the Vice President for Research and the Medical Director to identify research opportunities associated with gastroenterology.
