Physician, Family Medicine Residency Program Director
About The Position
The West Virginia University Department of Family Medicine is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Residency Program Director for the Rural Family Medicine Residency Program in Harpers Ferry, WV. This leadership role is available at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank. The successful candidate will be based in Martinsburg, WV, and will be responsible for the overall administration and operation of the residency program, including resident recruitment, education, supervision, assessment, and disciplinary actions. The Program Director is accountable to the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), and the ACGME FM-RC for program compliance and success. In addition to administrative duties, the Program Director will practice Family Medicine, providing patient care and teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.
Requirements
- MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent
- Eligible for state medical license
- Completion of a Family Medicine residency program
- Demonstrated Family Medicine expertise
- At least three years of documented educational, administrative, and GME experience
- Current certification by the American Board of Family Medicine or by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians
Responsibilities

- Supervision, assessment, promotion, and disciplinary actions of residents
- Scholarly activity
- Establishment of an effective learning climate at all teaching sites
- Providing excellent patient care in Family Medicine
- Teaching medical students, residents, and fellows
- Ensuring compliance with ACGME, WVUSOM, WVU Medicine, WVU Medicine East, bylaws of WVU’s Affiliated Hospitals, the Joint Commission, the American Board of Family Medicine, and the NRMP requirements
- Collaborating with the Residency Leadership Team (Associate Program Director(s), Residency Program Administrator, Residency Program Coordinator, chief residents) to achieve the program’s vision and mission
