Iowa Orthopedic Center is actively seeking a Physician Extender (Scribe) to support orthopedic providers in delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves assisting with clinical procedures, patient education, documentation, and clinic operations to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in a clinical or orthopedic setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in medical assisting or related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Present relevant patient information to the provider, including diagnostic studies, past medical records, recent treatments, and subjective complaints.
  • Collaborate with the provider to discuss and diagnose orthopedic conditions.
  • Room patients and obtain thorough intake information and medical histories.
  • Assist providers with in-office procedures.
  • Document patient office visits accurately in the EMR system.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, rehabilitation exercises, and related materials.
  • Fit and instruct patients on durable medical equipment and apply casts/splints.
  • Prepare injection and procedure trays, including drawing up medications as directed.
  • Send diagnostic and therapy orders as well as prescription medications under the provider’s direction.
  • Ensure clinic operations are efficient, maintaining a steady patient flow.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to facilitate seamless patient care.
  • Assist with administrative or clinical projects as assigned.
