About The Position

Bronson Neuroscience Center seeks an Epileptologist to join its established practice in Southwest Michigan. The role focuses on diagnosing and managing epilepsy and seizure disorders and working with a multidisciplinary team, a fully staffed clinic, and advanced practice provider support. The practice currently includes twelve neurologists and eight APPs. The position is employed by Bronson Medical Group and has a well-developed referral base. Clinical work includes outpatient clinic care, service in a six-bed epilepsy monitoring unit supporting adult and pediatric populations, and EEG reading. The center is a Level 3 NAEC Epilepsy Center and the only epilepsy center in Southwest Michigan. The position also offers an opportunity for teaching and academic affiliation through Western Michigan University’s Homer Stryker School of Medicine. The system uses Epic EMR and has advanced neuroimaging capabilities, including MRI, fMRI, PET, and SPECT. The physician provides clinical patient care, education, referrals, treatment, and ongoing management, and exercises final medical judgment in healthcare matters. The physician also participates in patient-care and process-improvement programs, consults with colleagues as needed, and may oversee mid-level medical and nursing staff. This is a full-time, first-shift role scheduled for 40 hours per week in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an accredited Neurology residency program; board eligible or board certified in Neurology.
Completion of an accredited Epilepsy fellowship; board eligible or board certified in Epilepsy.
Michigan medical license and DEA license, or eligibility to obtain them.
Medical degree and two years of direct or internship experience required.
Current medical license in the state of Michigan.
Current DEA and DPS Certificate of Registration.
Must maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and proper telephone etiquette.
Ability to perform in a tactful and professional manner.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and manage epilepsy and seizure disorders.
Provide outpatient clinical care and participate in the epilepsy monitoring unit; read EEGs.
Interview, examine, and treat clinical patients to meet their medical needs.
Educate patients and families about wellness, prevention, and early detection using materials and resources.
Determine necessary referrals and the urgency of follow-up, referral, and consultation appointments.
Exercise final medical judgment in healthcare matters.
Prescribe medical treatment and clinical drugs to patients.
Order studies, tests, and ancillary services.
Document services in patient medical records.
Regularly review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention.
Consult with the Medical Director and other professionals regarding patient care, assessment, and education as needed.
Participate in process improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient-care programs required by the hospital or clinic.
Oversee mid-level medical staff as assigned and nursing clinical staff.
Assist with resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information according to federal guidelines and regulations.
