About The Position

Sutter Medical Group (SMG) seeks to hire a Physician in Emergency General Surgery to join an established surgical team at Sutter Medical Center Sacramento (SMCS) in Sacramento, CA. This role involves practicing as an EGS Hospitalist within a 600-bed, tertiary care referral center that serves as a major hub for high-volume transfers throughout Northern California. The focus is on acute care "Bread & Butter" general surgery for patients ages 16 and older, including complex intra-abdominal cases, appendectomies, small bowel obstructions, and colectomies. The position does not require endoscopy but offers access to robotic surgical systems, with training provided for interested candidates. This is a high-volume environment typically requiring 3-4 operations within a 24-hour period, supported by exceptional APC coverage (2 during the day, 1 at night) who function as robotic first-assists and handle post-op clinic. Advanced efficiency tools like EPIC EMR and Abridge AI for automated documentation are utilized. Surgeons maintain clinical continuity by rounding on ICU patients, with the Intensivist team primary for critical care and vent management. Dedicated administrative support is provided for patient calls, and physicians control their post-op schedules.
