WakeMed Health & Hospitals is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Critical Care Intensivist Physician to join our high-performing, patient-centered critical care team. This position provides comprehensive care to critically ill patients across multidisciplinary ICU settings and plays a key role in advancing WakeMed’s mission of delivering outstanding, compassionate care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical practice, strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Licensed Medical Physician
  • Board Certification in Area of Practice Required
  • Doctorate Medicine Required
  • Fellowship/Internship/Residency - Related Area Required

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in adult intensive care units (medical, surgical, or mixed ICUs depending on assignment)
  • Perform and oversee critical care procedures, including but not limited to intubation, central line placement, arterial lines, and ventilator management
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating with hospitalists, specialists, advanced practice providers, nursing, and ancillary staff
  • Manage critically ill patients with complex conditions including respiratory failure, sepsis, ARDS, multi-organ dysfunction, and post-operative complications
  • Support and mentor APPs, residents, and medical students as applicable
  • Participate in rapid response and code teams as required
  • Ensure compliance with evidence-based protocols, clinical guidelines, and quality initiatives
  • Contribute to performance improvement efforts, patient safety initiatives, and organizational goals
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
