About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a BC/BE fellowship-trained Cardiac Electrophysiologist to join their well-established Cardiology department at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, Wisconsin. The role involves a high-volume electrophysiology service with access to advanced EP labs and comprehensive cardiac care. The physician will work closely with cardiovascular fellows and residents, with opportunities for teaching and mentorship. Research opportunities are also available within their established research institute. The department is committed to excellence in clinical care, education, and research with strong institutional backing. The clinic is adjacent to a Trauma Level II - 500 bed hospital and features advanced technologies such as Carto and Abbott mapping systems, 2 EP labs & 2 Cath labs, in-department ECHO and EKGs, Radiofrequency, Cryoablation, pulsed field ablation, laser extraction, and an in-department Pacemaker/Device clinic. A full spectrum high acuity cardiac care team, onsite CV surgery, and a large primary care referral base support the role. Physicians are encouraged to be involved in medical education and research.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Fellowship-trained Cardiac Electrophysiologist.
  • BC/BE (Board Certified/Board Eligible).
  • Completion of a hospital-affiliated Internal Medicine residency program of at least 3 years’ duration.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Cardiology of at least 3 years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Successful completion of an approved ACGME training program in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology that is 12 months in length and in addition to the Cardiology fellowship.
  • Certification by the appropriate specialty /subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable.
  • If not board certified at the time of application, must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of fellowship training unless waived.
  • Demonstrate successful performance of 50 ICD/permanent pacemaker placements and 25 ablations in the past 24 months (either via fellowship log, quality profile, or hospital-based clinical activity documentation).
  • For invasive/interventional EP procedures, the first 10 at Sanford Medical Center will be performed under the supervision of the EP Lab Director or Physician Designee.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Carto and Abbott mapping systems.
  • Experience with Radiofrequency, Cryoablation, pulsed field ablation, and laser extraction.
  • Experience in programming and follow-up management of all types of bradycardia pacing systems.
  • Advanced expertise in temporary pacing, Cardioversion, and complex arrhythmia electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation.
  • Advanced technical abilities and cognitive skills in management of patients with complex arrhythmias.

Responsibilities

  • Perform history and physical examination for acute and chronically ill adult patients presenting with a variety of heart rhythm disorders.
  • Admit, evaluate, treat, and provide consultation to patients.
  • Perform ICD/permanent pacemaker placements.
  • Perform ablations.
  • Engage in teaching and mentorship of cardiovascular fellows and residents.
  • Conduct research, potentially developing and conducting own research program.
