Visas Accepted N/A Specialty Cardiology - Electrophysiology Pacemaker Practice Details • Join our existing EP and a team of general cardiologists, interventionalists, vascular and advanced practice providers • Practice includes a mix of clinic, procedures and reading • 4 lab days per week; 1 clinic day • Clinic days- reading (monitors, device interrogations) • Procedures – mix of devices: ICD, Bi-V, perm pacemakers, loop implants, CRT-D, Ablations (afib, aflutter, SVT) • 3 cath labs – 1 biplane • Comprehensive system of ablation and device implant equipment • PET/Full vascular lab • 3D TEEs • No Call • Only cardiology program in north central Minnesota with the nearest referral site 140 miles away • 118 bed hospital; 14 bed ICU • Level III trauma center, critical care air service Community Description Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, Bemidji graces the shore of Lake Bemidji, one of more than 400 lakes in the region. Job Description Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Core Privileges include the ability to perform history and physical examination, admit, evaluate, treat, and provide consultation to acute and chronically ill adult patients presenting with variety of heart rhythm disorders. Qualifications M.D. or D.O. degree. Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways: An applicant who has just completed a fellowship shall provide his/her fellowship log, which should meet the required COCATs training for specialized electrophysiology, cardiac pacing, and arrhythmia management. OR An applicant who is not applying directly out of a fellowship shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 24 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications. For Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology skills, applicant must be able to demonstrate that he/she has successfully performed 50 ICD/permanent pacemaker placements and 25 ablations in the past 24 months. OR If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s hospital-based clinical activity for the past 24 months is required. For Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology skills, applicant must be able to demonstrate that he/she has successfully performed 50 ICD/permanent pacemaker placements and 25 ablations in the past 24 months. Oversight: The first 10 Cardiac Invasive/Interventional EP procedures at Sanford Medical Center will be performed under the supervision of the EP Lab Director or Physician Designee. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR INITIAL APPOINTMENT: Physicians trained in Cardiology fellowship programs may have variable levels of expertise in a variety of different areas, depending on the focus of their particular training experience. The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has defined the education, training, and experience necessary for many of these areas. The ACC 2008 Recommendations for Training in Adult Cardiovascular Medicine Core Cardiology Training (COCATS3) (Revision of the 2002 COCATS Training Statement) published January 22, 2008 are available at www.acc.org and was used as the foundation for the privileges in Cardiology. Additional information was obtained from the ACGME Program Requirements for Fellowship Education available at www.acgme.org and the Clinical Privilege White paper on Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Additional resources were used for procedures that cross specialty lines. Successful completion of a hospital affiliated Internal Medicine residency program of at least 3 years’ duration, and completion of a fellowship in Cardiology of at least 3 years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology requires successful completion of an approved ACGME training program that is 12 months in length and is in addition to the Cardiology fellowship. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency and fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than the above. Certification by the appropriate specialty /subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement. (Refer to each entities policy for grandfather exceptions) Level 1 (Basic Cardiology) -- Basic training required of all trainees to be competent consultant cardiologists. Provider is competent to manage brady arrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias. This level is addressed in the Cardiology Core Definition of clinical privileges and procedures. Level 2 (Advanced training in management of complex cardiac arrhythmias) – Providers are experienced in programming and follow-up management of all types of bradycardia pacing systems. Provider has advance expertise in temporary pacing, Cardioversion, and complex arrhythmia electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation. Level 2 training will not qualify the provider to perform the invasive surgical procedures required to implant arrhythmia control devices or pacemakers unless HRS guidelines are met (see link below for specific information). http://www.hrsonline.org/uploaddocs/Official_Final_ICD_doc_w_addendum_9-04.pdf See Special request for pacemakers. Level 3 (Invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac electrophysiology) – Providers who are specialized in invasive and diagnostic and therapeutic CCEP. Examples would include the ability to perform ablations, programmed electrical stimulation, endocardial mapping, and trans-septal catheterization. Providers will have advance technical abilities and cognitive skills in management of patient with complex arrhythmia. Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
