About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a fellowship-trained breast surgeon for a full-time position within its integrated, multi-specialty health system. This role offers opportunities for teaching, research, and leadership within a robust, multidisciplinary breast program. The physician will join a team of four surgeons with diverse expertise and serve a patient base estimated at 800,000. Sanford Healthcare System and The Edith Sanford Breast Health Initiative hold accreditations from the Commission on Cancer, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers. The program is fully integrated, featuring RN Nurse Navigators, dedicated specialists in medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, radiology, genetics, and supportive care. Sanford Health System also boasts a strong research department involved in national clinical trials, clinical research, and basic science research. The system has local and system-wide multidisciplinary breast-specific physician leadership councils to oversee the program, evaluate technologies, and ensure high-quality patient outcomes. The position also involves participation in a general surgery residency program and medical student rotations affiliated with The University of North Dakota Health Sciences Center, with existing residencies and fellowships in other specialties.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Successful completion of an accredited residency in general surgery or obstetrics & gynecology.
  • Fellowship training in breast surgical oncology or significant clinical experience in breast surgery.
  • Current medical license in each state of practice.
  • State Controlled Substance License (if required by State).
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
  • Board Certified in General Surgery by the American Board of General Surgery; or Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology or equivalent (American Osteopathic Board, Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada).

Responsibilities

  • Provides specialized surgical care to patients with benign and malignant breast diseases.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and manages patients with breast cancer and other breast conditions.
  • Performs surgical management for breast conditions.
  • Conducts ongoing follow-up care for patients with breast conditions.
  • Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, genetics, and supportive care.
  • Delivers high-quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based care.
  • Participates in teaching, research, and leadership opportunities.
  • Oversees the breast program, evaluates technologies, and ensures high-quality outcomes.
