About The Position

Provide direct, exceptional dermatological care to patients. This role involves a mix of clinical and administrative duties, including patient history review, full body skin exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, establishing diagnoses and treatment plans for skin diseases, and providing treatment for skin cancer, including minor surgical procedures. The position also requires patient counseling, skin safety education, prescribing medications, and documenting patient progress. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional clinical judgment, the ability to function independently, strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration, and the initiative to handle responsibilities with minimal supervision. A key aspect of the role is the ability to understand complex medical information and communicate it clearly to various audiences. The role also includes completing MIPS requirements and clinical notes within 48 hours, participating in community outreach programs, and adhering to ethical principles. Time management, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial, as is recognizing and respecting cultural diversity. The role requires maintaining confidentiality, accurate documentation, and practicing within the scope of education and capabilities, while staying aware of healthcare legislation and regulations.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor’s and master’s degree, together with a certificate from completing an American Medical Association approved physician assistant program
  • Possession of active Florida medical license
  • May possess a National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) issued certificate
  • Possession of state and federal Controlled Substance Registration
  • Some clinical experience in an area of specialty
  • Knowledgeable in computer programs, EMR systems, customer service, excellent verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Carries out a review of patients’ medical history
  • Performs full body skin exams
  • Orders diagnostic tests, including blood tests and x-rays, sends biopsies out to pathology and interprets the results
  • Establishes diagnoses and treatment plans for patient’s skin state disease
  • Diagnoses and treatment of skin cancer
  • Provides treatment, including minor surgical procedures such as, biopsies, cryo-therapy, ED&C, excisions
  • Provides counseling and skin safety education to patients and their families
  • Prescribes needed medications to patients
  • Takes record of patients’ progress
  • Performs research for current treatment procedures so as to provide quality care to patients
  • Ability to provide expert clinical judgment and function independently
  • Possession of exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that enable effective collaboration with physicians, staff, community health workers, patients and their families
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision, and to take initiative in handling the responsibilities of the position
  • Ability to understand complex medical information and clearly communicate it to patients and their families, medical staff, and external customers, in written and spoken format
  • Completes MIPS requirements and clinical notes within 48hrs of a patient visit
  • Possession of conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to effectively manage conflict in work environment
  • Frequently takes part in community outreach programs to promote the practice and educate people in skin cancer prevention and healthy living
