About The Position

The Physician Assistant will provide quality patient-focused care to patients in the Emergency Department under medical directives or direct orders, working within an inter-professional collaborative model and under the supervision and/or delegation of a supervising physician. This role is part of the Emergency Services Administration at William Osler Health System, a major Ontario hospital system known for its commitment to patient safety and diversity.

Requirements

  • Graduate of the Physician Assistant Bachelors degree at McMaster University or the University of Toronto consortium
  • Certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant
  • Certified or eligible to be certified through the Physician Assistant's Certification Council
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Paediatric Advanced Life Support and Neonatal Advanced Life Support are mandatory
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in both a verbal and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated competency to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
  • Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative medical model of care with all members of the health care team
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an emergency department preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducting patient interviews and taking medical histories
  • Performing physical examinations and interpreting findings
  • Organizing laboratory and diagnostic investigations
  • Performing certain controlled acts under medical directives delegated by a physician
  • Counselling patients on preventive health care
  • Organizing patient follow-up
  • Performing other duties within your competencies as a physician assistant
