Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited education program for PAs
  • Previous correctional/detention facility experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience
  • Unrestricted current license, certification or registration in state of practice
  • Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
  • Must reside in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical care to inmates under the supervision of medical leadership.
  • Evaluate and treat acute and emergency complaints.
  • Participate in administrative meetings.
  • Support cross-coverage needs.
  • Collaborate with physicians and mental health professionals.
  • Ensure clinical documentation and treatment align with protocols.
  • Maintain patient privacy.
  • Contribute to quality improvement activities.
  • Coordinate emergency care.
  • Support psychiatric assessment.
  • Deliver acute and emergency medical care in accordance with protocols.
  • Consult with physicians and manage patient transfers when clinically indicated.
  • Document all findings using the S.O.A.P. method and EMR systems.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and participate in quality improvement efforts.
  • Provide cross-coverage and support psychiatric stability assessments.
