About The Position

Southwest Medical Imaging Ltd. (SMIL) is seeking a Physician Assistant to work in the Interventional Radiology section. This hospital-based position involves working with nine IR Physicians and seven other Physician Assistants. The IR Physician Assistants will become proficient in performing a wide scope of minor procedures, including central venous catheter, port-a-catheter, and PIC catheter placement and removal; paracentesis; thoracentesis; bone marrow biopsy; lumbar puncture; myelogram; joint aspiration and injection; nasogastric tube placement; chest tube placement, exchange, and removal; drainage catheter exchange and removal (including abscess, biliary, gastrointestinal, and urinary catheters); and simple soft tissue biopsy. Responsibilities also include assisting in direct patient care services, such as inpatient consults and rounding, obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiographic studies, developing and implementing patient management plans, recording progress notes, fielding phone calls from patients and other healthcare professionals, and educating patients on their medical care. Any other duties as assigned are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Graduates of an ARC accredited PA program
  • Active NCCPA certification
  • DEA license
  • Arizona state license
  • BLS/ACLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement patient management plans and record progress notes
  • Field phone calls from patients, referring physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals regarding the coordination of patient care
  • Educate patients on their medical care
  • Perform any other duties, as assigned
