Under the general (direct or indirect) supervision of a licensed and Board-Certified Physician, this role evaluates and treats patients with medical and/or surgical oncologic, hematologic and/or surgical problems. The position delivers direct patient care, performs routine histories and physical examinations, and performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests and/or procedures as detailed in the department specific scope of practice. The Physician Assistant also participates in teaching and quality assurance activities with other members of the clinical department. The Hematology/Sickle Cell Physician Assistant functions in the outpatient/ambulatory and inpatient settings, playing a vital role in supporting patients and hematologists by coordinating and delivering high-quality care to patients with complex hematologic diseases.
