Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited education program for PAs
  • Previous correctional/detention facility experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience
  • Unrestricted current license, certification or registration in state of practice
  • Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
  • Must reside in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive medical care to inmates under the supervision of medical leadership.
  • Evaluates and treats acute and emergency complaints.
  • Participates in administrative meetings.
  • Supports cross-coverage needs.
  • Collaborates with physicians and mental health professionals, ensuring clinical documentation and treatment align with protocols.
  • Maintains patient privacy.
  • Contributes to quality improvement activities.
  • Coordinates emergency care.
  • Provides psychiatric assessment support.
  • Delivers acute and emergency medical care in accordance with protocols.
  • Consults with physicians and manages patient transfers when clinically indicated.
  • Documents all findings using the S.O.A.P. method and EMR systems.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance and participates in quality improvement efforts.
  • Provides cross-coverage and supports psychiatric stability assessments.
