About The Position

The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a Physician Assistant to join a multidisciplinary team responsible for the care of complex trauma patients. Working at the Shock Trauma Center, you will become a vital part of a high-acuity trauma team that provides continuity of care for patients from admission through discharge and post-discharge follow-up. The Physician Assistant collaborates closely with nurses, therapists, residents, fellows, attending physicians, and students to ensure safe, timely, and evidence-based care for patients with a wide spectrum of traumatic injuries and complex medical comorbidities.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program
Current Maryland PA license
NCCPA certification
DEA registration
BLS certification
ACLS certification
Minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care or trauma surgery
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

Nice To Haves

Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Experience in trauma resuscitation

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive assessments, develop and implement treatment plans for critically ill and injured trauma patients
Manage patients in high-acuity settings including ICU, step-down, and acute care units
Perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., central line placement, arterial lines, chest tubes, etc., based on competency)
Participate in trauma resuscitations and rapid response situations
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
Provide patient and family education and support throughout the continuum of care
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
