We are seeking a Part-Time, 20-hour Physician Assistant to join our Travel Medicine team at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Our Travel Medicine service provides care to those planning foreign travel. The team offers expert advice as well as pre-travel counseling, medication, and vaccinations to help patients enjoy a safer, healthier trip abroad. Under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine, the PA is responsible for establishing a comprehensive plan of care individualized to the age and needs of the patient to ensure safe travel abroad and prevention of diseases. The PA will also encourage preventative travel medicine through patient education and counseling. Other duties and responsibilities include: Assisting the Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine physician staff in providing medical services to patients, Providing detailed initial evaluations including medical histories, Reviewing patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports, Ordering laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies appropriate for complaint, age, race, gender, and physical condition of the patient, Coordinating treatment plans, Monitoring patient progress, Referring patients as necessary to appropriate sources for care under the direction of the supervising physician, Participating in rounds with residents, completing daily patient management assignments and assisting with patient care and disposition, Handling medical emergencies during regular working hours on the inpatient service. The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
  • Physician Assistant [State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • 2 years of experience as a PA required

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine physician staff in providing medical services to patients
  • Providing detailed initial evaluations including medical histories
  • Reviewing patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports
  • Ordering laboratory, radiological and diagnostic studies appropriate for complaint, age, race, gender, and physical condition of the patient
  • Coordinating treatment plans
  • Monitoring patient progress
  • Referring patients as necessary to appropriate sources for care under the direction of the supervising physician
  • Participating in rounds with residents, completing daily patient management assignments and assisting with patient care and disposition
  • Handling medical emergencies during regular working hours on the inpatient service
  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
