About The Position

This position is located within Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Advanced Leave Accrual may be authorized.

Requirements

  • US Citizens
  • Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
  • Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant which includes: (1) performing medical screening examinations to access patient health; and (2) diagnosing medical conditions such as diseases, injury or illness; and (3) and prescribing medications based on health condition or diagnosis.

  • Exemption: You are exempt from the license requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0603 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical exams (must be able to lift up to 40 lbs to position patients/equipment).
  • Record subjective data, progress notes, and narrative case summaries.
  • Interpret sleep studies and manage pulmonary/sleep consults.
  • Formulate treatment plans, duty restrictions, and primary provider recommendations.
  • Counsel patients and manage continuing care.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications (including controlled substances) per scope of practice.
  • Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and radiological studies.
  • Supervise Sleep Lab technicians: schedule, assign, and evaluate work.
  • Handle hiring recommendations, training, performance standards, and minor discipline.
  • Maintain patient data security and confidentiality.
  • Align with DHA, MTF, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement, infection control, and peer reviews.
