About The Position

Evans Army Community Hospital is hiring Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistants to provide clinic, inpatient, and perioperative care alongside a collaborating orthopedic surgeon. You will help patients of all ages recover from injuries and conditions of the extremities, spine, and related structures. If you enjoy a hands-on role that blends clinic work, casting and injections, and first assisting in the OR, this position offers the variety and autonomy you are looking for.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the ARC-PA
  • At least 24 months within the last 36 months actively practicing as an Orthopedic Surgery PA (or in training)
  • Demonstrated clinical and surgical first-assistant competency, verifiable through clinical and surgical activity logs from prior institutions
  • Current NCCPA certification
  • Current BLS, ALS, and PALS certifications, maintained at your own expense
  • Current, valid, unrestricted PA license
  • Held in the U.S. jurisdiction where services are performed (Colorado)
  • Must remain free of limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions
  • U.S. citizenship (required for all positions on this contract)
  • Ability to submit a complete credentialing package within 30 days
  • Meet DoD health requirements before placement
  • Hepatitis B series with a positive titer; MMR and varicella (series or positive titer)
  • Annual influenza vaccine and tuberculosis screening (2-step PPD or QuantiFERON)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and consult on conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the extremities, spine, and associated structures for patients of all ages
  • Obtain and evaluate medical histories, perform physical exams, and order labs, radiographs, ECGs, and other studies
  • Perform non-operative management of fractures, including orthopedic casting and injections
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine the disposition of patients with emergent conditions per medical staff policy
  • Counsel patients on medical problems, medications, expected treatment effects, and health maintenance
  • Assist the orthopedic surgeons in the operating room as a surgical first assistant
  • Provide perioperative care in conjunction with the treating surgeon
  • Admit patients and perform inpatient rounds under the direction of the orthopedic surgeon
  • Administer lifesaving procedures and medications in emergencies pending physician availability
  • Coordinate care with the healthcare team and initiate consultations to other specialties as needed
  • Make entries in patient records and complete narrative summaries and other documentation
  • Participate in monthly peer review and quality assurance chart reviews when requested
  • Attend patient care conferences and professional staff meetings related to your assigned cases
  • Instruct other team members on preventive medicine and related clinical topics
