About The Position

The Orthopedic Spine Surgery Physician Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality medical care under the supervision and delegation of the orthopedic spine surgeon. This provider works closely with another Physician Assistant and the surgeon, maintaining an independent clinic schedule while sharing operating room responsibilities. The Physician Assistant evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and educates patients while assisting with surgical procedures and ensuring continuity of care throughout the patient experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Active NCCPA certification or eligibility to obtain certification
  • Current Arizona Physician Assistant licensure or ability to obtain licensure prior to employment
  • Current CPR certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Minimum one (1) year of orthopedic surgery or neurosurgery experience required
  • Strong understanding of acute and chronic patient care protocols
  • Knowledge of medication administration and treatment planning
  • Ability to assess, document, and monitor patient health status
  • Strong patient education and communication skills
  • Ability to gather and analyze physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient information
  • Ability to evaluate patient concerns and provide appropriate recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to revise treatment plans based on patient response and clinical findings
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Ability to make responsible clinical decisions within the scope of Physician Assistant practice
  • PA Program Completed in USA (Not Puerto Rico)

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient health status, compliance with treatment plans, and determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
  • Obtain medical histories and perform comprehensive physical examinations
  • Provide acute and chronic patient care services
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness and adjust care plans as appropriate
  • Administer medications, injections, and other approved treatments
  • Perform wound care and suturing procedures
  • Triage patient phone calls and evaluate patient concerns
  • Respond appropriately to medical emergencies, including CPR interventions
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation within the medical record
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and recovery expectations
  • Provide continuity of care throughout the patient journey
  • Assist surgeons in the operating room during orthopedic spine procedures
  • Participate in hospital rounds and coordinate patient care activities
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members regarding patient management
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all regulatory standards
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and departmental goals
