About The Position

The Ellison Medical Institute is seeking a passionate and talented oncology Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. As part of the Ellison Medical Institute, the PA/NP plays a key role in delivering diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, and survivorship care for breast cancer patients under the direction and supervision of a physician. The provider supports the multidisciplinary oncology team in ensuring timely, high-quality, and compassionate care throughout the breast cancer journey, including diagnosis, active treatment, and follow-up. Responsibilities include conduct of comprehensive assessments, management of acute and chronic oncology-related conditions, monitoring response and side effects, coordinating imaging, procedures, and specialty referrals, and ensuring patients remain on track with their care plans. The role is integral to maintaining continuity of care, improving patient outcomes, and supporting both clinical care and clinical research efforts.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree from an accredited PA or NP program.
  • Master’s degree and focus in oncology required.
  • At least 3–5 years of direct patient care experience.
  • Oncology field required.
  • Exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to triage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Skilled at navigating complex situations with clear communication and strong follow-up
  • Effectively deliver high-touch patient care
  • Proficiency in Epic preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive visits with patient and obtains medical histories
  • Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible physician of changes in patients’ conditions
  • Performs appropriate physical examinations
  • Provides continuity of care in the management of complex illnesses under the supervision of a physician.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, including the coordination of referrals to specialty and social services
  • Oversees chemotherapy/infusion patients and monitors for reactions
  • Manage side effects of therapy
  • Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies
  • Initiates consultations and monitors scheduling of patients for diagnostics studies
  • Performs and/or interprets common laboratory, radiological, and other routine diagnostic testing
  • Writes appropriate medication prescriptions
  • Document clinical encounters and ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Provide patient and family education on diagnosis, treatment options, and expectations
  • Participate in survivorship planning and end-of-life care discussions
  • Maintains compliance with established department policies and procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control and complies with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in in-service education programs and professional associations.
