About The Position

Surgical Affiliates Management Group (SAMGI) is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to support both our Vascular Surgery and Trauma/Acute Care Surgery (ACS) programs in Bakersfield, California. This unique position offers the opportunity to work across two complementary surgical services, providing a diverse mix of inpatient care, operating room support, outpatient vascular clinic, trauma and acute care surgery coverage, and postoperative follow-up. Join an experienced surgical team at a Level II Trauma Center and teaching hospital, supporting both the Vascular Surgery and Trauma/ACS programs. Your responsibilities will be divided between the two services based on daily clinical and program needs. This is an excellent opportunity for an APP who enjoys variety, wants to maintain a broad surgical skill set, and is comfortable working across inpatient, operative, emergency, and outpatient settings. On the Vascular Surgery service, you’ll support open and endovascular procedures, inpatient consultations, outpatient vascular clinic, and perioperative care. On the Trauma/ACS service, you’ll assist with the evaluation and management of trauma and acute surgical patients, inpatient rounding, consultations, perioperative management, and coordination with the multidisciplinary trauma team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current PA-C certification or appropriate national NP certification
  • Current or eligible California PA or NP license
  • 1–2 years of vascular surgery, trauma, acute care surgery, general surgery, critical care, or comparable surgical experience strongly preferred
  • Operating room and inpatient surgical experience preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment and communication skills
  • Ability to transition effectively between two surgical services
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity hospital environment
  • Strong collaborative and patient-centered approach
  • Eligible for hospital credentialing and privileges

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient and outpatient care for vascular surgery patients
  • Assist vascular surgeons with open and endovascular procedures
  • Participate in inpatient rounds and vascular surgery consultations
  • Support cases in the operating room and outpatient surgery center
  • Provide care in a fully equipped outpatient vascular clinic
  • Manage patients with peripheral arterial disease, varicose veins, dialysis access, carotid disease, and other vascular conditions
  • Participate in elective and postoperative vascular clinics
  • Coordinate perioperative and postoperative patient care
  • Evaluate and manage trauma and acute care surgery patients in the emergency department and inpatient setting
  • Participate in daily inpatient rounds
  • Assist with surgical consultations and ongoing patient management
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative care
  • Support trauma and acute care surgeons with clinical evaluations and treatment plans
  • Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice and hospital privileges
  • Coordinate care with emergency medicine, critical care, nursing, and specialty teams
  • Support discharge planning and follow-up care
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and communicate effectively with the surgical team
