Work Shift: Varies (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 32 Union Position: No Department Details Marshfield Medical Center - Minocqua is seeking a Nephrology Nurse Practitioner to join a thriving practice in Minocqua, Wisconsin. The Nurse Practitioner is a skilled member of the health team who provides medical and educational services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician, according to Nurse Practitioner Protocol, and within the scope of the Nurse Practitioner License in the State of Wisconsin. This position will be working off-site at Dialysis centers in Woodruff and Rhinelander. Summary The Nephrology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care and management to patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases, including those on dialysis and post-transplant. Working in collaboration with nephrologists and the interdisciplinary team, the NP performs assessments, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, develops and implements treatment plans, and provides education to patients and their families.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
  • State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
  • National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC); Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP)
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.

  • Nephrology or internal medicine experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments including histories and physical exams, focusing on renal health.
  • Manage patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and hypertension.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work, urinalysis, and imaging studies.
  • Prescribe medications, manage dialysis care, and monitor patient responses to treatment.
  • Collaborate closely with nephrologists, dialysis teams, dietitians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Educate patients and families on disease processes, medications, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and transplant considerations.
  • Monitor and adjust care plans for dialysis patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and help develop evidence-based care protocols.
  • Document all patient interactions and clinical decisions in the electronic health record.
