Work Shift: Varies (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Union Position: No Department Details The Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant is a skilled member of the health team who provides medical and educational services to patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. In this role, you will be joining an experienced Oncology team. You will see patients at both Weston and Stevens Point Centers. This role has a 4 day 10hr schedule work week, and call rotation will be one weekend and two weekdays each month. New graduates welcome! Summary The Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions. This role involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with cancers, blood disorders, and related complications. The NP works collaboratively with physicians and a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care throughout the continuum of diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Requirements

  • Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. If Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
  • State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
  • National Board Certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC); Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP)
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.

  • Experience in hematology/oncology clinical settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including history, physical examination, and symptom evaluation.
  • Order, interpret, and manage diagnostic tests and laboratory results related to oncology and hematology care.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive care measures.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and adjust plans accordingly.
  • Manage symptoms and side effects related to cancer and its treatment, such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and hematologic abnormalities.
  • Provide patient and family education on disease processes, treatment options, and self-care strategies.
  • Coordinate care with oncologists, hematologists, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Facilitate referrals to specialists, clinical trials, and supportive services.
  • Document all patient encounters, treatments, and care plans in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research, and continuing education related to hematology/oncology.
  • Maintain current knowledge of advances in hematology and oncology care and treatments.
  • This position also provides on-call coverage outside of regularly scheduled hours.
