NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion, a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center, and a Primary Stroke Center. The hospital also has multiple outpatient sites. This role is for a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Critical Care APP on the Medical Stepdown Unit, Full Time. The Physician Assistant Service is dedicated to providing quality, professional, cost-effective health care. Physician assistants (PA) practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician, fulfilling a broad range of medical services. The Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) provides high-acuity inpatient care for adult patients admitted to the Medical Stepdown Unit. Working in collaboration with Critical Care Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Pulmonary/Critical Care, and consulting specialists, the APP manages patients with complex medical conditions requiring continuous monitoring, advanced therapies, and frequent clinical reassessment. The APP functions with a high degree of autonomy in evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and stabilizing patients at risk for clinical deterioration while promoting safe transitions of care and preventing ICU readmissions. The Medical Stepdown Unit serves as an intermediate level of care between the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and general medical-surgical units.
