About The Position

UPMC Harrisburg is hiring a Full-Time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to help support the CTICU - Day Shift. The ideal candidate has a strong interest and some experience in critical care and/or cardiac surgery, and about 2 years of APP experience. The position involves managing a CTICU census of 6–10 patients, focusing on cardiac surgery patients, stat consults, and ER admissions to cardiac surgery. It is an inpatient-focused role with no outpatient call. The role requires procedural skills such as central and arterial line cannulation, ventilator management, airway management, and point-of-care ultrasound. The APP will also drive innovation in care delivery and workflow improvement, supported by a full specialty network and EPIC EMR. The department is a 19-bed ICU handling upwards of 1,000 cases per year, offering a high level of autonomy and boasting a Three Star STS Rating in three categories for its Cardiac Surgery division. The Staff or Senior Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a member of the care delivery team, responsible for setting standards for the level and quality of care, and providing patient care activities through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members under the supervision of and in collaboration with a physician. The APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care, and demonstrates a commitment to the community and the healthcare profession.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in critical care and/or cardiac surgery.
  • About 2 years of APP experience (for general role).
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required.
  • For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required.
  • For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing.
  • For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): Current CPR certification is required.
  • For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): Act 33 Clearance will be required.
  • For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): Act 73 Clearance will be required.
  • For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): Act 34 Clearance required.
  • For Physician Assistant (PA): A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required.
  • For Physician Assistant (PA): Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.
  • For Physician Assistant (PA): Current CPR certification is required.
  • For Physician Assistant (PA): Act 33 Clearance will be required.
  • For Physician Assistant (PA): Act 73 Clearance will be required.
  • For Physician Assistant (PA): Act 34 Clearance required.
  • For Senior Level: Minimum 3 years of experience or Completion of a post-graduate residency.
  • For Senior Level: The successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or a graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) program is required.
  • For Senior Level: Completion of National Certification.
  • For Senior Level: Must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating or higher on annual performance evaluation for consideration and to maintain status annually.
  • For Senior Level: Completion of an OAPP approved professional contribution within one year of hire or promotion into the position.
  • For Senior Level: Must have department chair approval for promotion.
  • For Senior Level: ACLS or ITLS or NALS or PALS or ACLS or other certifications listed must meet AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience in critical care and/or cardiac surgery.
  • Procedural Skill Utilization: Central and arterial line cannulation, ventilator management, airway management, and point-of-care ultrasound preferred.
  • BSN, MSN is preferred (for CRNP).
  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred (for CRNP).
  • BS or MS candidate is preferred (for PA).
  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred (for PA).
