About The Position

UPMC Central PA is hiring a Full-Time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to support our Hematology/Oncology department. This position will provide primarily outpatient breast oncology services, with minor inpatient rounding requirements at local hospitals in the Harrisburg area. CRNPs are expected to obtain their advanced oncology certified nurse practitioner certification (AOCP) within 3 years of hire. The role involves working cooperatively with physicians, other PA’s/NP’s, RN’s, and allied health personnel. UPMC Central PA offers a unique opportunity to work with the world-renowned Hillman Cancer Center while maintaining point of care close to home. All cancer center APPs report directly to a supervising APP. The Central PA hem/onc team is experiencing tremendous growth, and the team relies on the experiences of each other and their physicians to provide the best cancer care in the area.

Requirements

• Full-Time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner.
• Two to five years of clinical experience in primary care or acute care/internal medicine is desired.
• Clinical leadership and professional flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
• Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
• Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record (EPIC) preferred.
• Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required.
• Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required.
• National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Act 33 Clearance will be required.
• Act 73 Clearance will be required.
• Act 34 Clearance required.
• Physician Assistant (PA): A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required.
• Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Act 33 Clearance will be required.
• Act 73 Clearance will be required.
• Act 34 Clearance required.
• Senior Level: Minimum 3 years of experience or Completion of a post-graduate residency.
• The successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or a graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) program is required.
• Completion of National Certification.
• Must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating or higher on annual performance evaluation for consideration and to maintain status annually.
• Completion of an OAPP approved professional contribution within one year of hire or promotion into the position.
• Must have department chair approval for promotion.
• ACLS or ITLS or NALS or PALS or ACLS or other certifications listed must meet AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• OAPP: If practicing in an outpatient or other non-inpatient setting, APPs can use one of the certifications above or use a business unit approved certification which is relevant, and value added to the practice setting.

Nice To Haves

• Hematology and Oncology experience preferred but not required.
• BSN, MSN is preferred for CRNP.
• Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred for CRNP.
• BS or MS candidate is preferred for PA.
• Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred for PA.

Responsibilities

• Working collaboratively with oncologists, APPs, and the interdisciplinary team to comprehensively care for oncology patients.
• Comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a diagnostic impression, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies, and offering counseling and education to meet patient needs.
