About The Position

We are looking for 2-3 part-time Physician Assistants to provide on-site clinical coverage in an outpatient radiology imaging center, with primary responsibility for direct supervision of examinations requiring contrast administration. The PA is physically present on site during scheduled coverage hours to ensure patient safety, timely medical response, and compliance with clinical and regulatory requirements. Schedule / Hours (Onsite Coverage Required) Monday–Friday: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Saturday & Sunday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM PA must be physically present on-site for the duration of assigned shifts. Typical Physical Demands Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the imaging center for extended periods. Ability to respond rapidly to medical emergencies. Requires manual and finger dexterity as well as eye-hand coordination sufficient to perform patient assessment, emergency interventions, and medication administration. Typical Working Conditions Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Active NM Physician Assistant license.
  • NCCPA certification in good standing.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in radiology, imaging, emergency medicine, or acute care preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment, emergency management skills, and effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite medical oversight and supervision for examinations during contrast administration, in accordance with established protocols and physician direction.
  • Perform in-person patient screening and assessment prior to contrast administration, including review of medical history, allergies, renal function, and contraindications.
  • Identify patient risk factors that may indicate a contraindication to contrast media use or an increased likelihood of an adverse event.
  • Provide recommendations for exam reschedule and/or premedication, if indicated, following ACR contrast media guidelines.
  • Obtain and document informed consent for contrast administration when required.
  • Immediately recognize, evaluate, and manage adverse reactions to contrast agents, including mild, moderate, and severe reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis, hypotension, respiratory distress).
  • Administer emergency interventions as indicated, including medications (epinephrine, antihistamines, corticosteroids) and advanced life support measures, in accordance with facility protocols.
  • Coordinate rapid escalation of care, including activation of emergency medical services (EMS) if required.
  • Collaborate directly with radiologists, technologists, and staff to ensure safe, efficient patient flow.
  • Document clinical assessments, interventions, contrast reactions, and outcomes in RIS and the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain current knowledge of contrast agents, risk factors of contrast administration, contrast reaction treatment, emergency response procedures, and advanced life support guidelines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and comply with all MR safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with state scope-of-practice laws, CMS requirements, ACR guidelines, and facility policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and regulatory audits as assigned.
