About The Position

The Physician Assistant (PA) at CHEO works alongside the physician on inpatient mental health and in a mental health outpatient aftercare clinic to provide care to the patients requiring these services. The PA integrates the skills and knowledge from a medical model of practice. The PA functions both autonomously and in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers to manage patient care in a comprehensive manner. Working closely with the Interdisciplinary team, the physician assistant will participate in the management of patients admitted to inpatient mental health during their admission and/or for a time limited period after discharge and will be involved in medication/treatment management and focused risk assessment.

Requirements

  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
  • Graduate of a recognized Physician Assistant Program (Essential)
  • Previous experience in related field (Essential)
  • Current appropriate level of life-support training (e.g., BCLS) (Essential)
  • Experience or willingness to learn about mental health (Essential)
  • Ability to function collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and practice in a self-directed manner (Essential)
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and organizational skills (Essential)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to participate as a member of interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrates creativity, innovation, flexibility and initiative
  • Sound conflict resolution skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Sound crisis management skills (Essential)
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job (Essential)
