Evaluates, examines, diagnoses, and treats patients in collaboration with their supervising and/or substitute supervising physician according to established guidelines and protocols. Maintains and promotes the well-being of the patient through preventative healthcare and guidance. Provides care in the hospital setting, including rounding at the hospital, weekends, and the possibility of shift work. This role involves managing the physical and psychological problems of the patient, including identifying normal and abnormal findings, implementing treatment plans, and evaluating responses to medications and treatments. The position also requires effective communication with the physician supervisor and other healthcare providers to achieve desired outcomes and ensure a continuous flow of patient care. Additionally, the role includes performing procedures, assisting in surgery, and providing pre and post-operative care. The Physician Assistant will also interview, evaluate, and assess patients in the clinic setting, providing recommendations for treatment and adjusting medications as indicated. Collaboration with the supervising physician and treatment team is crucial for achieving desired outcomes and ensuring continuous patient care. Documentation in the medical record is a key responsibility, as is demonstrating leadership by utilizing critical thinking skills and problem-solving independently. Participation in performance improvement activities to enhance patient care quality, customer service, and practice efficiencies is also expected. Patient safety is paramount, requiring adherence to infection control processes, utilization of proper patient identification, and practice of National Patient Safety Goals.
